As 2019 draws to a close, the Japanese ghost stories will be released in January 2022.
The “yamishibai: japanese ghost stories season 9” is confirmed to be released in January 2022. The series will be the last of its kind as it’s creator, Junji Ito has passed away.
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories, helmed by Tomoya Takashima, will debut its tenth season in January 2022. The wonderful announcement was released on TV Tokyo’s official website on Friday, December 17, 2021. The precise date of the debut has yet to be determined.
Yamishibai’s first season aired on TV Tokyo in July 2013 and consisted of 13 episodes. The anime series has had over 91 episodes since then. Each episode was serialized as a series of vignettes and lasted barely a few minutes. If you haven’t watched this anime yet, do it now before the next season premieres.
Every five minutes in the animation, an elderly guy wearing a yellow mask talks Japanese stories and urban legends with children at a playground. To convey these stories, he used a storytelling technique known as kamishibai, or paper theater. As the series’ narrator, renowned Japanese voice actor Kanji Tsuda returns to bring these tales to life.
The horror animation was also adapted into a live-action film, which premiered in Japan in September 2020. The live-action adaptation stayed loyal to the original Yamishibai anime aesthetic by using still pictures of landscapes and paintings instead of video footage. The live-action adaptations reproduced classic anime ghost tales and also developed a few of unique pieces.
We’re hoping for more sneak peeks and updates on the impending horror anime. Keep an eye on our page for more anime updates!
